Football is often seen as a game. Yet, when approached with intention, the field becomes much more than a place of competition—it becomes a space for learning, reflection, and social awareness.
The Göztepe Football Academy U14 team took part in a meaningful initiative that brought the topic of anti-racism into an experiential learning environment. Rather than addressing the issue through traditional instruction, the workshop was designed as an interactive process where young players could engage, reflect, and develop a deeper understanding of the subject.
The session was led by experienced trainer Necdet Erdeniz and built around the method of creative drama, allowing participants to actively take part in the learning process. Through role-playing and guided exercises, players were encouraged to step into different perspectives, fostering empathy and a stronger awareness of diversity and equality.
This approach enabled the participants not only to understand the concept of discrimination, but also to question it, experience it, and respond to it in a safe and constructive environment. The workshop created space for dialogue, reflection, and personal insight—key elements in building long-term awareness.
At Göztepe Football Academy, player development extends beyond technical and physical training. Social, cultural, and human values are considered an essential part of the educational journey. This workshop stands as a strong example of how sport can be used as a platform to address critical social issues and contribute to the development of more conscious individuals.
Addressing topics such as racism at an early age plays a crucial role in shaping individuals who are not only better athletes, but also more aware, respectful, and responsible members of society. Initiatives like this demonstrate how development that begins on the field can extend into every aspect of life.
As SEGAD, we will continue to support and develop initiatives that combine sport with education and social awareness, contributing to a more inclusive and equitable future.
